General Summary

General Statement:

HOW DEEP HAVE THE BUDGET CUTS BEEN OVER THE PAST 12 YEARS?

The numbers below are based on an analysis prepared for the BC Court of Appeal as Affidavits submitted by seven superintendents.

KEY FINDINGS:

(1) Based just on the information provided in the affidavits – the stripping of the contract has     taken away $614.00 per student per year – based on a 12 year career in school every student has been stripped of just over $7000.00 each as a result of this government.

(2) Based on this information – it can be reasonably suggested that, as a result of these strips the government is saving (or students have been without) $356 M every year in the province – over 12 years the education system in BC has been stripped of $4.2 billion. Most of it at as a result of cuts to specialist teachers – therefore most of it at the expense of our most vulnerable children.
